Review Topic: Naturalization

Here is my N400 interview experience at the Buffalo office during Covid. I applied for naturalization based on the three year marriage rule. my appointment was for 7:45 AM and I arrived at about 720 AM. The doors had just been unlocked and I was the first one and went through security then checked in at the window where I was fingerprinted and I showed them my interview letter.
I waited about 25 minutes in the waiting room until I was called into a private room for my interview.
The officer was professional but friendly. First I showed them my green card and my drivers license and my passport. Then we launched into the English and civics test. What territory was purchased in 1803? What was the main concern during the cold war for the United States? Who was the first President of the United States? Who did the United States go to war with in World War II? How many amendments are there? What are the two primary political parties? Then we started discussing my application form. He asked questions about my travel history and he was interested in the exact dates of a recent trip that was about three months but didn’t need the exact dates of trips that were less than a month long. He also asked for specifics about my recent move because I had moved from New Jersey to New York state after I had applied for the N400. We updated some information such as the birth of my son (I showed him the birth certificate and our marriage certificate) as well as our new address and he asked about my husband’s work but this seemed more conversational and I don’t think he was taking notes on his computer. I think a lot of the information that he used to judge my case was revealed in our conversation rather than direct questions. At the end he spent a few minutes typing while I waited in silence and after that he printed off the results and showed me that he had recommended me for approval. The interview took about 30 minutes. He said that because of COVID they were trying to catch up on the backlog and so they were going to do my oath in about 40 minutes and I would wait in the waiting room. It was about 45 minutes later and I was given the oath, right there in the waiting room, along with two other people who had early morning appointments like I did. It was a bit odd not having anybody there with me for the oath and it all happened so quickly but all in all a most smooth appointment. I was out by about 9:15 AM.

Review Topic: Adjustment of Status

My husband (Italian) and I had our marriage-based adjustment of status interview on Monday. It was as good of an experience as I think you can have. We obviously don't have experience in other cities to compare, but all of the staff was very friendly. My husband's english is not great and we had requested an interpreter. Unfortunately, the interpreter did not show, but the officer let me translate as needed to him. I was surprised by this, but I think she honestly just wanted to see that we can communicate well to one another.

We had plenty of supporting documents, and I think this is what she was more concerned with. We had our 2019 filed taxes, joint health insurance, joint bank accounts, joint lease, and photo albums.

The questions asked were honestly more directed to me than my husband. She asked me more questions about our marriage, wedding, etc. Questions to him were more in regards to border entry and the questions that are asked on the I-485.

We got married Sept. 1, 2019, filed at the end of October 2019, had the biometrics at the end of January 2020, and approved at the appointment on March 16th 2020. She told us at the end of the interview that she was recommending approval. Buffalo is much faster than other cities, and the officer even said they process more quickly there. Overall very good experience. Good luck to you all!

Was only 5 minutes the interview. We have a lot of proofs and the officer doesn’t need any additional information.

Review Topic: Adjustment of Status

We received the letter of appointment for AOS a month before the set date of the interview, so we were given ample time to prepare for the much awaited interview At the back of the letter are the things needed to take with you for the interview.
Enumerated are the things we prepared for our interview:
1. Up to date Medical Examination (med. exam. are good for only a year, so better check the date you first submit your med exam to them).
2. Affidavit of support (which we submitted already when we applied for the adjustment of status, so no need for that anymore.)
-unless, if you have new FEDERAL TAX INCOME statements, W2 those stuff, or if you are working now, and is receiving paychecks, better submit those as an update to your file.
3. EAD, AP and SSN
4. Original Documents of our Marriage Certificate, our Birth Certificates, Naturalization Certificate (citizenship)...I mean all the certificates you submitted from your application of Adjustment of support, they just wanted to see the original document.
5. Supporting Evidences of our relationship like, Bank Statements, Life Insurances, Medical Insurances, and of course pictures together.

We got there 2 hours early, in Suffolk USCIS, went to subway within the vicinity outside the building, then decided to went inside. When we get inside theres like a metal detector machine, like the ones we see from airports--removed our bags, cp, even shoes, then walked pass through the metal detector booth or whatever is that called :D. We registered at 9:30 for our 10:30am appointment. We got called at around 11:45am, so thats a lot of time waiting.

We were called by our interviewer and led us back to his desk, introduced his name and asked us to swore to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth so help me God :D

He then proceeded to asked for our ID's, my EAD/AP/SSN and made a photocopy of those--then our Original Documents for MC, BC, his Citizenship Cert, and asked us whatever documents we wanted to submit as a proof of our marriage, (bank statements, Med.Insurances, Life Insurance,.I also submit my paychecks from my work, and then pictures of us from our life together since I moved here to be with him).
*its surprising he did not asked for my updated Med. Exam, we spent almost $250 for that since Med Exams for AOS are not covered with insurances. But oh well, at least we got prepared just in case..hehe

Question we got from our interview .
1. He asked me "Where do you live?" , answered it pretty quickly and comfortably.
2. Then he asked my husband, "What is the date of your marriage and where?"---I'm glad we practiced for that one :D
3. He turned to me and asked "Where does your husband works" -- answered it
4. Followed by "Where is his second job" --of course I know :D
5. Last question "What is his work--working as what"

And thats it, he then asked question from my application of my I129f packet, which I thick that was from my DS160, thats the longest part of our interview, you just have to answer YES or NO.

After that he explained to me how to renew for my conditional Greencard, and the privileges it carries. He said I should get my greencard after a week .

Interview Question may vary from situations to situations, just be prepared and trust in your partner Godbless and Goodluck!

Review Topic: Adjustment of Status

Arrived 10am for 10:45 interview. Went through security, checked in, and waited with maybe 3 individuals/couples before us. Got called after a short wait, maybe around 10:35. Followed officer to office, stood to take an oath, sat down. First asked to submit I-693 medical forms. Officer then directed questions to my USC wife, confirming many of the personal details on her portion of the forms. When my wife disclosed that she had changed her job, I quickly found the employer letter and gave it to the officer. Next I was asked many of the questions from my part of the form: personal details and yes/no questions. The officer asked where and when we first met, when we started dating. When the officer asked me if I have any children, I gestured towards my wife and said we have one on the way. The officer congratulated us while I produced a letter from the OBGYN confirming the pregnancy, which the officer kept. At the end, the officer said things looked good and they should be able to approve the application in the next couple days. I asked if they would stamp my passport with the I-551 and stated my reason which is admittedly not very urgent. The officer assured us that it takes only a couple weeks for the green card to arrive and recommended that we just wait it out. We left the USCIS building around 10:45. Got email update from the DHS status site about card being in production within half an hour. Got email update about I-130 and I-485 approvals two days later.
